SUBJECT: Adoption of a Resolution Calling for a Ceasefire and Immediate Peaceful Resolution to the Ongoing Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis Impacting Gaza and Israel RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the following resolution:
Resolution No. 2024-10 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA, Calling for a Ceasefire and IMMEDIATE Peaceful Resolution to the Ongoing Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis Impacting Gaza and Israel EXECUTIVE SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Due to the actions of October 7, 2023, in the Middle East and public testimony on the matter, the City Council requested that staff bring forward a resolution for Council consideration, calling for a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict and Humanitarian Crisis impacting Gaza and Israel. Resolution No. 2024-10 (Attachment 1) was prepared in response to this request.
If approved by Council, the resolution will be disseminated to all interested parties, as requested.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact with this action.
PREVIOUS RELATED ACTION:
On May 15, 2023, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2023-81, condemning hate crimes and any other form of racism, religious or ethnic bias, discrimination, incitement of violence, and targeting a minority.
On January 8, 2024, the City Council directed staff to bring forward a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza for the Council’s consideration.
