DISCUSSION:
United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) works to support the concerted power of LA’s communities and neighborhoods and build collective will and thoughtful solutions to provide immediate relief to people in crisis. While the long-term solution to addressing homelessness is creating more affordable housing, it is imperative that people experiencing homelessness have access to safe, convenient, and meaningful places to access services and support in the short-term.
Recently, UWGLA commissioned a report by the RAND Corporation to better understand the landscape of Los Angeles County’s daytime services. This report was commissioned with the belief that our unhoused neighbors deserve dignified places to go during the day as much as during the night. The report reflected the reality that these neighborhood hubs are bridging the gaps in services for unhoused people by offering access to essential services, while operating often on the generosity of passionate community volunteers and part-time staff. This funding aims to support neighborhood spaces, providing our unhoused neighbors with access to service-rich spaces, meaningful engagement, and support networks that can dramatically change the outcomes of people experiencing homelessness and connect them to pathways to permanent housing.
The City of Pomona applied for the UWGLA grant opportunity to fund technology upgrades, including computer equipment, printers, and a wireless network installation for the Pomona Family Resource Center at 2040 N. Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA 91767. Additionally, the City applied for physical site upgrades, including a trauma-informed therapeutic garden and miscellaneous furniture and equipment.
The term of the Contractual Agreement between the City of Pomona and UWGLA, shall be from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024.
