A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, RECOGNIZING MARCH 19, 2024 AS “IGNACIO LOPEZ DAY” IN THE CITY OF POMONA WHEREAS, Ignacio Lopez, a visionary publisher and civil rights activist, has left an indelible mark on the cultural and social landscape of Pomona through his dedicated commitment to justice, equality, and community empowerment; and WHEREAS, the naming of Lopez Elementary School and the establishment of Lopez Urban Farm stand as powerful expressions of Pomona's commitment to preserving its rich history and fostering educational spaces that celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, Ignacio Lopez's exceptional legacy continues to inspire us to strive for educational excellence, cultural appreciation, and community engagement; and WHEREAS, in recognition of our shared dedication to honoring Ignacio Lopez's memory, the City of Pomona establishes March 19, 2024, as the first "Ignacio Lopez Day," serving as a collective acknowledgment of his profound impact on our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA does hereby proclaim March 19, 2024 as “Ignacio Lopez Day”
