The savings will be unappropriated from the Gas and Electricity and Hourly account lines, then re-appropriated and transferred to the CIP Fund. The table below summarizes the fiscal impact of this action:

Category

Current Budget
$95,000
Appropriation of General Fund Savings (101-2590-89987-71069) $30,000
Revised Budget

PREVIOUS RELATED ACTION:

On October 16, 2023, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2023-07 creating the Project and appropriating $95,000 of General Fund Youth Commitment Funding to the Project.

DISCUSSION:

Pickleball, a combination of tennis (net), ping-pong (paddle), and badminton (size of court) is America’s fastest growing sport for the fifth consecutive year in a row. There are currently no pickleball courts in Pomona. On October 16, 2023, the City Council approved the creation of “Park Improvements – Sport Court Resurfacing and Restriping,” Project No. 428-2590-XXXXX-71069 to install the City’s first pickleball courts at Palomares Park, and appropriated $95,000 of funding. Construction bids received were higher than anticipated, and it is necessary to appropriate an additional $30,000 to fully fund this Project. The four (4) existing tennis courts at Palomares Park will be resurfaced and restriped to provide pickleball courts.

COUNCIL PRIORITIES & GOALS:

This item supports Priority 4 Safe and Clean Community: Invest in public safety, community programming, and maintenance of properties and infrastructure to ensure residents, businesses, visitors, and employees feel safe, neighborhoods reflect the beauty of Pomona, and the community feels a sense of pride and ownership of the City.
