A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF APRIL 2024 AS “NATIONAL HEALTHY HOMES MONTH” IN THE CITY OF POMONA WHEREAS, home health and safety hazards, including physical safety hazards, lead-based paint, radon, mold, pests, and allergens, cause or contribute to a wide range of illnesses and diseases, including lead poisoning, asthma, cancer, and injuries; and WHEREAS, lead poisoning affects thousands of Pomona children under six; and WHEREAS, accidents in the home hurt thousands of Pomona residents every year; and WHEREAS, hundreds of Pomona residents are harmed by improperly stored chemicals in the home; and WHEREAS, dozens of Pomona residents are harmed by carbon monoxide poisoning every year; and WHEREAS, since 2014, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes, through its National Healthy Homes Month, has educated the public, policymakers, public health and housing professionals, caregivers, and the general public about the issues important to healthy homes; and WHEREAS, the 2024 theme is "MAKING AN IMPACT: Healthy, Safe, and Resilient Homes!; and WHEREAS, the goals of the theme are to educate, promote grants, improve standards, measure impact, and build networks; and WHEREAS, weekly activities target and call upon specific audiences such as State policy makers, elected officials, building professionals, weatherization experts, home inspectors, housing and health sector stakeholders, researchers, community organizers, health care providers, and residents to participate and raise awareness; and WHEREAS, National Healthy Homes Month provides an opportunity for all to join the campaign effort to educate the public, policymakers, public health and housing professionals, caregivers, and the general public about the issues important to healthy homes.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA does hereby proclaim April 2024 as “NATIONAL HEALTHY HOMES MONTH”
