DISCUSSION:

Tri-City Mental Health Services (TCMHS) is a comprehensive mental health provider serving the communities of Pomona, Claremont, and La Verne. Through its Prevention and Early Intervention Plan, the Community Wellbeing Grant Program funds projects up to $10,000 to organizations that improve the wellbeing of its community members. Staff researched the grant guidelines and determined that the City is eligible to apply for a project that aligns with the funding opportunity and thus, submitted a proposal on April 1, 2024.

On May 21, 2024, Community Services staff received award notification from TCMHS for Heartful Hands, a project aimed at addressing challenges and barriers that teens face in obtaining service-learning opportunities and community service hours. The Project will serve up to 500 youth ages 13-17 and provide opportunities to gain skills to become effective change agents in our community. The 10-month project will offer hands-on activities, mentoring, and community projects for teens to gain leadership, decision-making, communication, and problem solving skills.

The Project will be administered August 2024 through May 2025. The grant period is July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

Community Services is committed to providing high quality, meaningful recreational programming that fosters wellness and strengthens the capacity of the community to increase social connection and mental wellbeing.
