PREVIOUS RELATED ACTION:

On May 1, 2023, the City Council adopted Resolution 2023-52, receiving SGPRC grant of $94,790 and amending the FY 2022-23 Operating Budget by increasing revenue estimates and appropriating $94,790 in grant funds (Fund 215-4190-40889/5xxxx-58777) from San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center.

On March 18, 2024, the City Council adopted Resolution 2024-33, amending the Fiscal Year 2023-24 operating budget by appropriating $79,790 of San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center Grant funds to Inclusive Pomona Project.

DISCUSSION:

In December 2022, staff submitted a grant application to San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, for the FY 2022-23 Social Recreation Grant Program, which offered to fund projects to community partners to develop programs or services for children and adolescents with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD), to enhance and develop integrated and inclusive social and recreational programs. In March 2023, the City received notification that the grant application was awarded in the amount of $94,790, and entered into an agreement with SGPRC in April 2023. The grant provided funding to hire five inclusion staff to provide support to youth with I/DD participating in the City’s After School Recreation Program and/or youth sports, as well as contract with Kids Included Together, a non-profit organization to train City staff, staff of local-serving organizations, parents/guardians, and the general public in inclusive principles and practices in order to better meet the needs of Pomona’s youth with I/DD.

In March 2024, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2024-33 to appropriate the remaining balance of the Inclusive Pomona grants not appropriated during the FY 2023-24 budgeting process. The approval of this resolution increased the FY 2023-24 Operating Budget revenue estimates by $79,790 and appropriating $79,790 in San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center (SGPRC) funding to the Inclusive Pomona project.

Approval of this action will amend the FY 2024-25 Operating Budget by increasing revenue estimates by $16,597 and appropriating $16,597 in San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center (SGPRC) funding to the Inclusive Pomona project. This will appropriate the remaining balance of the Inclusive Pomona grants not expended during the FY 2023-24 budget.
