Cafecito con Libros Literacy Program

Donations will be used to increase literacy and cultural awareness for teenagers in Pomona by reading culturally and age appropriate literature, and participating in a variety of activities related to the reading. These activities range from exams to winning prizes, an end of the year banquet for those completing the program, as well as meeting an author. Students will also have the opportunity of being part of a writing workshop given by a different author every year. * What is the benefit to the City of Pomona? (An expenditure of public funds must be for primary benefit of the public agency that is making the expenditure)
The City has already, and will more so in future benefit from a more literate population. In large part due to our program, Garey High School has had the largest increase in literacy in the entire district. Our students also mentor younger ones both on our campus, and Lexington on the importance of literacy.

This is an awesome opportunity for youth 13-21 to learn an actual trade, these skills can be applied to a real job position. The kids are super excited. We need to provide lunch. Tools, books, materials, transportation to and from the training site. In addition, We have to compensate our very skilled and experienced instructors. * What is the benefit to the City of Pomona? The benefit is Priceless! we’re exposing the youth to a career, these are life changing skills, that can be used when applying for Government or state jobs. The impact is huge when you can direct the youth into a positive mindset. I’m especially proud of this project. We measure success by the lives we change.

IT WILL HELP AROUND 400 YOUTH BOYS, AND GIRLS TO PLAY A SPORT THEY LOVE, BASEBALL & SOFTBALL, WE HAVE COACHES AND VOLENTEERS, WORKING WITH THESE KIDS TRAINING THEM A GAME THEY LOVE, SOME AT RISK KIDS REALLY NEED HELP WITH ADULT SUPERVISON, BECAUSE WE WILL LOSE THEM TO THE STREETS.
AND OUR SOFTBALL PROGRAM IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THESE GIRLS BUSY, AND OUT OF TROUBLE, WE ALSO HELP PAY FOR KIDS WHO CANT AFFORD TO PAY RIGISTRATION FEES. WITH THESE DONATION WE GET FROM THE CITY, AS WELL AS INSURANCE... * What is the benefit to the City of Pomona? THIS BENEFITS THE CITY TO KEEP KIDS BUSY, OFF THEIR PHONES, AND IPADS, AND PLAY A SPORT THEY LOVE, WE KEEP THEM FROM GETTING IN TROUBLE IN THE STREETS, AND TRY TO INSTILL IN THEM CHARACTER. BECOME MODAL CITIZZENS IN THE CITY OF POMONA. WE ALSO DO EVENTS LIKE TRUNK OR TREAT NIGHT IN OCT.
AND A TOY GIVE AWAY IN DEC. ALONG WITH A CAR SHOW FOR THE COMMUNITY. Donated funds will be used to secure transportation capable of carrying large quantities of donated goods to sister churches in the fire-affected area of Altadena. These donations will include flats of water, canned goods, clothing, and other essential items urgently needed by those impacted by the recent fires. * What is the benefit to the City of Pomona? Local churches, including Humanity Church, are joining forces to support victims of the recent fires in nearby cities. Providing much-needed donated goods is a meaningful way for communities to come together and help those in need. If the roles were reversed, we can trust that Pomona and its residents would similarly benefit from the generosity of others.
