DISCUSSION:

These District 5 CDBG funds were allocated for this purpose with approval of the FY 2024-25 Annual Action Plan on June 3, 2024. However, the project was not yet created, nor was funding appropriated to the FY 2024-25 CIP Budget. This Project will provide for the rehabilitation of the softball field at Washington Park as funds allow. In priority order, the proposed improvements are replacing the field’s backstop, extending the fencing, installing new player benches, and providing new bleacher seating. The new infrastructure will elevate the overall experience for players and spectators, encouraging more outdoor recreational activity.

The anticipated construction schedule for a portion of the Project, the replacement of the field’s backstop and extending the fencing, should begin by April 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by July 2025, barring any delivery and manufacturing conflicts. The additional improvements listed in the project will be completed when additional funding can be secured.

COUNCIL PRIORITIES & GOALS:

This item supports the 2021-22 City Council Priority 5: Goal O: Improve Parks facilities in the following general order of priority: 1) ensuring that existing amenities are functioning; 2) rehabilitating bathrooms and other park facilities and equipment; 5) adding new bathrooms; and 6) adding additional recreation and playground equipment.
