On December 6, 2016, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2016-164 Reaffirming the City’s commitment to diversity. At the Meeting on November 18, 2024, the City Council directed staff to place this item on an upcoming agenda for reaffirmation.
DISCUSSION:
At the November 21, 2016, Council Meeting, multiple speakers addressed the Council concerning inflammatory rhetoric resulting from the November 2016 Presidential Election and expressing concerns about potential negative impacts that the election could have on Pomona’s diverse community. Former City Councilmembers Nolte and Carrizosa drafted the verbiage contained in Resolution No. 2016-164 in response to those concerns. The Mayor and Council asked that a resolution be prepared to reaffirm the commitment to diversity for consideration by the current City Council. Resolution 2025-02 (Attachment) has been prepared in accordance with that direction, with minor amendments to the original resolution language to reflect the updated reaffirmation of the sentiments contained therein.
