A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, PROCLAIMING JUNE 2025 AS “LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH” IN THE CITY OF POMONA WHEREAS, our nation was founded on the principles of equal rights for all people, the fulfillment of this promise has been long in coming for many Americans. Some of the most inspiring moments in our history have arisen from the various civil rights movements that have brought one group after another much more – but not always enough – recognition and justice in American society; and WHEREAS, Pride is a celebration of our history and progress, and it is also a crucial movement against unjust systems of oppression. In the movement toward equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and other identified persons (LGBTQIA+), we recognize the pivotal role that transgender individuals have played—and continue to play—in advancing the fight for equity and justice for all; and WHEREAS, while our nation has made strides in social and legal actions to protect LGBTQIA+ communities, violence and discrimination—particularly targeting transgender individuals, especially transgender women of color—remain alarmingly prevalent. Ending this violence and ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of transgender people demands urgent, ongoing action and unwavering solidarity from all sectors of society; and WHEREAS, Pomona has diverse LGBTQIA+ communities that include people of all races/ethnicities, religions, social classes, gender identities, and professions. The City of Pomona supports its LGBTQIA+ residents—including transgender and nonbinary individuals—by providing a variety of resources, services, and educational materials to the community and allies; and WHEREAS, everyone should be able to live without fear of prejudice, discrimination, violence, and hatred based on race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation. Yet, we live in a society that does not guarantee that for everyone. This LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, we affirm our obligation to uphold the dignity of all people and dedicate ourselves to protecting the most vulnerable among us, especially members of the transgender community who face disproportionate threats to their safety and well-being; and WHEREAS, the youth of Pomona and our next generation of leaders are working tirelessly to bring awareness, visibility, and acceptance into the future. Their efforts to advocate for justice and inclusion—including the establishment of a recognized “Pride Month” in the City of Pomona—demonstrate a powerful commitment to equity and change that must be supported and celebrated.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA does hereby proclaim the month of June 2025 as:
“LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH”
