RESOLUTION NO. 2025-93
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA AUTHORIZING THE ART IN PUBLIC PLACES PROGRAM STAFF TO APPLY FOR THE CALIFORNIA ART COUNCIL GRANT OPPORTUNITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DA CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND DOWNTOWN POMONA OWNER’S ASSOCIATION TO ESTABLISH THE CITY OF POMONA AS A CALIFORNIA CULTURAL DISTRICT AND COMMITTING TO $10,000 FROM THE ART IN PUBLIC PLACES FUND AS A MATCH IF AWARDED WHEREAS, the City of Pomona (“City”) is dedicated to preserving and building on the inventory of existing public art within the community; WHEREAS, the California Arts Council supports designating well-defined geographic areas with a high concentration of cultural resources and activities and is seeking applications for its next round of Cultural District awardees, which includes a $10,000 grant award; WHEREAS, the City recognizes its Downtown as a long-standing cultural district; WHEREAS, the City intends to partner with the dA Center for the Arts and Downtown Pomona Owner’s Association to apply for the State application, and will engage other public art stakeholders as part of this process; WHEREAS, the City intends to match the award with up to $10,000 from its Public Art Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Pomona as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council authorizes the Art in Public Places Program Staff to apply for the California Art Council grant opportunity in partnership with the dA Center for the Arts and Downtown Pomona Owner’s Association to establish the City of Pomona as a Cultural District and commits up to $10,000 from the Public Art Fund (133-1712-xxxxx-51340) as a match if awarded.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution, and it shall become effective immediately upon its approval.
