A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, PROCLAIMING MAY 2026 AS “HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH” IN THE CITY OF POMONA WHEREAS, May has traditionally been historic preservation month in the United States; and WHEREAS, 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; and WHEREAS, Pomona's cultural, historical, and architectural heritage and resources as living parts of community life which will benefit and enrich the lives of its present and future residents WHEREAS, Pomona’ heritage builds civic pride by promoting the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the city's rich heritage and cultural resources; and WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable development, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and WHEREAS, Historic Preservation Month helps us recognize the historic sites, neighborhoods, and landmarks that tell the full American story—places that remind us of how far we've come and how far we still have to go; and WHEREAS, Historic Preservation Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and WHEREAS, the California Preservation Foundation’s Theme for 2026 is "Past Meets Possible: Reimagining Place and Purpose" and the City of Pomona is focused on ensuring our historic places endure another 250 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA does hereby proclaim May 2026 as “Historic Preservation MONTH”
