Subject: Proclamaon Request for Arthris Awareness Month in May Dear Members of the City of Port Hueneme’s council,
My name is Jessica Camarillo and I am a junior at Oxnard High School. I am honored to serve on this year’s planning committee for the Arthritis Foundations - Walk to Cure Arthritis, which will take place on May 31 at The Collection. I am writing to request your support in approving a proclamation to recognize May as Arthritis Awareness Month in the city of Port Hueneme.
Arthritis affects millions of people, including children like myself. I was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis when I was just four years old and still receive infusions every four weeks. Despite these challenges, I have remained dedicated to my academics, maintaining an above 4.0 GPA, and proudly playing on the Oxnard High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team. I rarely share my condition with my peers because I don’t want special treatment—I simply want to be seen for who I am. However, raising awareness is incredibly important to me, and I believe this proclamation would help shed light on the reality of arthritis and the need for continued research and support.
I would also like to request if you would play the attached 2 minute video “Faces of Arthritis“ during the council meeting. It is a powerful video that highlights the impact of arthritis for all ages. If this is possible, please let me know what steps I should take to make this happen. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8zd3xXabGZ8
I also want to personally invite each of you to join us at the Walk to Cure Arthritis, May 31, 2025. Your support would mean so much to our community working toward a cure.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to your response and hope to see you in May.
Sincerely,
Jessica Camarillo
