RE: Geological Safety Committee
Attendance: Two members Gary Ernst and Pat McCroy signed in remotely because of illness, Troy Douthit, Steve Ingebritsen, Nan Shostak , Chester Wrucke, and Bob Wrucke attended in person.

Public Comment- Steve Ingebritsen PHD is leading the panel on the effects of Climate Change on Geologic Safety for the annual USGS 3-day conference at the new headquarters of USGS at NASA’s Moffit Field. He is encouraging members to attend as a general area overview of seismic responses, risk and hazard.

The Evacuation Subcommittee of the GSC has presented a detailed document with excellent maps which illustrate location of seismic and flood risks along evacuation routes. These have been sent to the Woodside Fire Protection District and the Evacuation Subcommittee of the Emergency Preparedness Committee. This document addresses awareness of cumulative risks with fire, ground motion, and flood. It is in Adobe Illustrator and is accessible on both a professional and a community level. There is outreach from the Town of Woodside for this information. There is no GSC in Woodside and they understand the value of this because of the enormous amount of time, work and wisdom that has been put into this paper.

The Berrocal Fault (on the USGS map not the town map) and the Black Mountain Fault (which is not on either map but was recognized in the 1908 report- the Lawson Report) are represented on this map. The minimal text includes risks to water system and sewer which are necessary to understand our ability to shelter in place. Nan has the sewer plan. They will outreach to help Emergency Preparedness with West Bay Sanitary, water, ham radio- Rothrock, The maps have identified all locations of reasonable potential blockages with the understand that geology is unpredictable. The GSC began their work on Evacuation issues before the Emergency Preparedness Committee began their work and has consistently exercised foresight for the safety of our town.

Utility resilience sub-committee to accumulate information. Troy and Steve volunteered.it was unanimously approved. Budget request for 2024-2025 was also approved.

The GSC would like to have representation on the possible upcoming Safety Element review. Pat McCoy volunteered with Nan as back up.

RE: Resources Management and Climate Protection Committee (RMCP) minutes from approved:

CCAG Equity Assessment report
Water Supply and Conservation Agency report on water supply- I let them know that Portola Valley did not trust the water supply in the advent of a fire or earthquake event. Mountain Tunnel is closed for repairs. County water year begins in October. Our system is gravity run from the mountains to Presidio Heights. San Mateo water is now coming from the Calaveras Dam. The north south transport to LA requires pumping and that tunnel will take more than 20 years to complete. Our aquafer in San Mateo County is sound. There are 12 monitoring wells in place for quality and quantity. The Central Valley Aquafer is, however, is in trouble but cannot be refueled because of desiccation so needs immediate relief. Reservoirs are currently adequately filled.

San Mateo County Regenerative farming and carbon sequestration were discussed for the 25, 000 working acres of land in the Count, sycamores, redwoods and oaks are the best carbon sequestering trees.

Peninsula Clean Energy discussed its public fleet program. On April 1 towns need to report to their fleet status and show progress towards trucks and equipment moving towards electric power. CUCS sites to visit to register.

CARB.com for the Air Resource Board
Sierra Club Water representative, Sarah Hubbard, and Tuolumne River Watershed representatives spoke in public comments. They are disappointment about the progression of the One Tunnel through its EIR and Governor approval. by Gove Newsom. Is the Delta and its slowly reviving ecosystem about to get starved of sediment and water, again? 1 position on this committee is turning over on RMCP Board, Rick is leaving
