ANNUAL
REPORT
SAN MATEO COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
SEPTEMBER 2025
TOWN OF
PORTOLA VALLEY
The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to the guiding
priorities of safety, transparency, and trust. While crime levels in Portola Valley continue to be very low, incidents involving assaults, fraud, and property crimes underscore the ongoing need for vigilance. In response, the department has adapted strategies, implemented new technologies, and strengthened community partnerships to address emerging concerns.
Over the past year, efforts have focused on prevention
through expanded fraud awareness initiatives, enhanced support for seniors, promotion of e-bike safety in schools, and the continuation of strong patrols. Additionally, investments in officer training and mental health response initiatives have advanced our ability to provide effective and equitable public safety services.
As we look to the year ahead, the Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to modernizing our approach and further enhancing collaboration with families, schools, and local leaders. Through these efforts, we aim to proactively address challenges and preserve the safety and well-being of the Portola Valley community.

As we move ahead, the Sheriff’s Office is expanding its efforts in Portola Valley in collaboration with the Portola Valley School District. Preparations are underway for a “Coffee with Parents” event in November. These partnerships reflect the office’s commitment to working closely with schools, families, and local leaders to ensure safe and responsible e-bike use in the community. By providing ongoing education and resources, the Sheriff’s Office aims to build awareness, promote safe riding habits, and protect young riders throughout Portola Valley.
Recently, the office has has engaged the families through various “Back-toSchool” events. On September 9, Sergeant Tashiro attended Corte Madera’s Back-to-School Night to continue sharing safety tips with parents.
Over the past month, the Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Portola Valley schools to provide education on e-bike safety for parents and students.
