Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to you in support of the proposed Life Time Fitness use at The Farmdevelopment. I believe it brings a quality walkable amenity to the community. I live on Saint Andrews Drive, adjacent to the project (I am looking at builders framing new houses as I writethis).
As much as I would love to see a mix of commercial and restaurant uses at The Farm, I don't believe the location is viable enough to support many businesses. I looked at a 1-2 mile radiusand noticed half of the area is open space and the other half is low-density single family homes. I doubt there are many businesses that would be successful with such a low populationin the trade area. I would rather see a single successful business than vacant storefronts.
I understand Life Time's business model to be built on a quality fitness experience for a membership premium, not a membership volume strategy. The volume strategy did not seemto work for Chuze Fitness nearby in RB. Life Time's business model appears uniquely suited to be successful.
A common argument I hear is, "this is not what we voted for in the Specific Plan." This is true. But it is also unrealistic to expect a property owner to precisely predict what businesses will choose to occupy space years in the future in a free market environment. In my opinion, LifeTime Fitness is consistent with the spirit of the approved specific plan.
The other popular opposing argument I hear is, "people will show up at 5am making noise." That statement is ironic. When Stoneridge was an operating golf course, people arrived dailybefore sunrise and began teeing off at daybreak.
I look forward to using the Life Time facilities with my family and teaching my young daughter the importance of a healthy lifestyle. I appreciate your consideration.
Thank you,Colby Young
