Dear city manager, members of council and city mayor,
I am writing to you about agenda item 5, Approval of Agreement with San Diego Humane Society. I know animal service options are limited in San Diego county but I urge you to revise the contract to include more protections for the city and the animals so that there is more transparency and accountability.

As you may remember, last fall they sent 323 small pets to Arizona who became reptile food. They have refused to release records to the public regarding this event and have stonewalled in releasing investigation updates. As you may know also, they are currently in court regarding allegations of dumping domesticated cats back into the community instead of trying to find them homes. They are trying to say all cats are feral and there is a distinction in which they are blurring the lines.

They also participate in transfers to shelters who claim to be no kill but euthanize, as with the most recent shipment of cats to OHS. Additionally, the cost of services has went up exponentially over the years since SDHS has taken over the contract and what has remained stagnant is the amount they spent on vet care and spay/neuter services despite an exponential increase in animals.

The increase in costs to tax payers is going to pad executive leaderships salaries. Gary makes around $450K a year as CEO, which is more than our governor. Jessica who incompetently shipped the small pets and has a mere bachelors in communication makes $207K and Brian makes $270K. Last year, SDHS spent a mere $1.8 million on vet care on the 800+ animals in their care, 2.6 million on advertising and 1.1 million on their gala.

The priorities do not seem straight with this organization and use of the money this way is a waste of tax payers hard earned dollars. I encourage you to revisit the contract before approval and ask hard questions and put safe guards in place. The people of Poway deserve a better use of their taxes and the animals deserve more humane treatment.

Thank you for your time, candace charvoz frank

Dear City Manager, Members of Council and Mayor Vaus,
We are regestered voters and residents of Poway. We feel very strongly about this issue.

We are writing to you about agenda item 5, Approval of Agreement with San Diego Humane Society. The increase in costs to tax payers is going to pad executive leaderships salaries. According to Justice for 318, Gary Weitzman makes around $450K a year as CEO, which is more than our governor.

Jessica Des Lauriers, who incompetently shipped the small pets and has a mere bachelors in communication, makes $207K and Brian Daugherty makes $270K. Last year, SDHS spent a mere $1.8 million on vet care on the 800+ animals in their care, 2.6 million on advertising and

1.1 million on their gala. The priorities do not seem strait with this organization and use of the money this way is a waste of tax payers hard earned dollars. We encourage you to revisit the contract before approval and ask hard questions and put safe guards in place.

The shelters also constantly close for intake due to outbreaks of disease ... happens 3 times a year according to "Justice for 318".

The people of Poway deserve a better use of their taxes and the animals deserve more humane treatment.

Dear Ms Edmondson,
I am writing to you about agenda item 5, Approval of the Agreement with San Diego Humane Society. Animal service options are limited in San Diego County, but I urge you to revise the contract to include more transparency and accountability. Last fall, SDHS sent 323 small pets to Arizona and many of them became reptile food. They have REFUSED to release records to the public regarding this event, and have stonewalled in releasing investigation updates, if there are any. SDHS is currently in court regarding allegations of dumping domesticated cats back into the community (Community Cat) instead of trying to find them homes. They are saying that the cats are unowned and there is a distinction in which they are blurring the lines.

They also participate in transfers to shelters who claim to be no kill, but euthanize. The most recent shipment of cats to Oregon Humane Society. Additionally, the cost of services has gone up exponentially over the years since SDHS has taken over the contract. What has remained stagnant is the amount they spend on vet care and spay/neuter services, despite an exponential increase in animals. The increase in costs to tax payers is going to pad executive leaderships salaries. Gary makes around $450K a year as CEO, which is more than our governor.
