My name is William King. I would like to present the following at the city council meeting. This note is from wife's gmail accountl
DANGERS THAT REQUIRE MITIGATION; STORM DRAINAGE CHANNELS-WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION? WHEN WILL CORRECTIVE MEASURES OCCUR? This refers to the drainage channel area along the west side of Espola Rd, north of Poway High School, and south of Lake Poway Road.
DRAINAGE CHANNEL FLOOR. - A fire hazard.
The channel is saturated with flammable material which has accumulated over the last 30 years. I have been removing the accumulated debris from the drainage area behind my property; about 500 pounds per week over a 9-month period. OVER NINE TONS OF MATERIAL These channels need to be surveyed and cleaned out. The current condition poses an unacceptable risk to the nearby community.
HAZARDOUS TREE REMOVAL PROJECT- No action taken, 9 months past published completion.
In the spring of 2023, the city chartered a survey of the drainage channels. The trees which posed a hazard were marked. The city published a plan for the removal of hazardous trees, this was to be completed in October 2023. I was told the city was waiting for FEMA final approval, a revised schedule has not been provided. There does not appear any sense of urgency to correct the hazardous conditions identified last year. Eucalyptus trees shed their outer bark. Although some markings remain intact, many markings have been lost, some are only partially intact, some have faded and are barely visible. Trees which are bent over 90 degrees pose a danger of falling. I was told that the city was not taking any action on dead trees, until FEMA approval of the HAZARDOUS TREE REMOVAL PROJECT. There are over ten dead trees behind my home, and several dead trees over 40 feet tall, visible from my home.
The tie of the HAZARDOUS TREE PROJECT and the removal of dead trees appears to be artificial. DEAD TREES NEED TO BE REMOVED
I have lived in a home on Riverbend Ct for over 30 years. A storm channel runs between my property and Espola Road, previous letters have yet to result in any action. Who should I contact for action and status of correction of these issues? 2 of 2 August 6, 2024, Public Comment
