HOMES AND PROPERTY ARE AT RISK DUE TO THE CQNDINTION OF THE
STROM DRAINAGE CHANNEL
I have lived on Riverbend Court for almost 40 years. The storm channel is between my property and Espola Road. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of my neighbors. The absence of any maintenance has elevated this to a dangerous condition, this drainage channel has been neglected for far too long. After contacting the City Manager last year, I was contacted by representatives of the Public Works department. They told me the city does not maintain these channels. My property borders a little less than 10% of the channel running behind Riverbend Rd. and Riverbend Ct. The estimates below are based on that, however the total of scope for the entire channel is far gre.ater ...
OVER 100 TONS OF DEBRIS IN THE CHANNEL ·
I have been removing the accumulated debris from this public land, about 500 pounds of debris per week (a ton per month). I estimate that I have removed over 15 tons of debris from the area behind my home thus far and am not finished. THE CHANNEL MUST BE CLEANED OUT. During the heavy rainfall in 2004 the drainage channel was blocked where it passes under Summer Sage Rd causing it not to function properly.
OVER 100 DEAD TREES
I have counted over 15 dead trees behind my property alone. These have trunk diameters greater than three inches. There are several trees over 40 feet tall that are dead which are clearly visible from my home.
HAZARDOUS TREE REMOVAL-NOTHING HAS HAPPENNED SINCE THE
SPRING OF 2023
In the spring of 2023 trees were marked and the city published a plan to remove these trees by October 2023. Nothing has happened nor has the city provided a revised plan. Most of the markings are gone as eucalyptus trees shed the outer bark. There are many tree trunks which are bent over 45 degrees from vertical and pose a true hazard. There are some trees which are bent over 90 degrees. I was told that the town is waiting for FEMA approval.
There doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency to correct this condition.
