CITY COUNCIL
Approval of Seventh Amendment to Employment Agreement for City Manager The City Council conducted its annual performance evaluation of the City Manager, Chris Hazeltine, wherein the City Council determined that the City Manager has exceeded its expectations and goals.
Based on this positive evaluation, the City Council desires to amend the City Manager Employment Agreement to provide for a 4% increase in the City Manager's base salary.
Recommended Action:
It is recommended the City Council authorize the Mayor to execute the Seventh Amendment (Attachment A) to the City Manager Employment Agreement between the City of Poway and Chris Hazeltine.
Discussion:
Chris Hazeltine has served as City Manager since May 6, 2019. Per the terms of the City Manager Employment Agreement, the City Council is required to conduct an evaluation of the City Manager's performance every year, where it may consider any amendments to the City Manager Employment Agreement, including (but not limited to) extensions of its term or performance-based salary adjustments.
The City Council conducted its performance evaluation on April 21, 2026, and determined that the City Manager has exceeded expectations, and is entitled to an increased salary, based upon his positive performance. The Seventh Amendment (Attachment A) would increase the City Manager's base salary by4%.
