Subj: City Council Meeting 07-07-2026, Agenda item #3
To the City of Poway,
On behalf of the Poway Girls Softball League (PGSL), we would like to express our sincere appreciation for the City's commitment to restoring the Lake Poway softball field and our strong support for the planned renovations and additional improvements.
Over the past decades, PGSL has experienced significant growth, increasing the demand for practice and playing facilities throughout the community. Prior to 2021, our league utilized both the Aubrey Park ball fields and the Lake Poway lighted softball field to accommodate our expanding program.
When the City initiated the Clearwell Water Treatment Project in 2021, the Lake Poway field was temporarily repurposed to support that important infrastructure project. During that time, our practices were relocated to Starridge Neighborhood Park, where the City installed temporary lighting to allow our athletes to continue practicing in the evenings. We are grateful for the City's efforts to provide an alternative location and seamless transition to a similarly-equipped temporary field to ensure our program could continue serving hundreds of local families.
As the Clearwell Water Treatment Project nears completion, we are excited to learn that the Lake Poway softball field will once again be available for youth softball. We have had the opportunity to review the proposed renovation plans presented by the Parks and Recreation Department and the project's construction team, and we are enthusiastic about the vision for the facility.
PGSL strongly supports the inclusion of the additional improvements being considered, including permanent shade structures for the dugouts and additional natural grass turf in the outfield. These enhancements will improve player safety and comfort, create a more enjoyable experience for families and spectators, and provide a high-quality facility that will serve Poway's youth for many years to come.
The return of the Lake Poway lighted softball field will provide much-needed practice space for our growing league, reduce scheduling constraints at Aubrey Park, and allow us to better serve the increasing number of girls participating in softball throughout our community. We are grateful for the City's investment in youth recreation and look forward to returning to the Lake Poway facility.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of the Poway Girls Softball League. We respectfully encourage the City to move forward with the proposed renovations, including the additional field improvements, so that this facility can once again become an outstanding resource for the young girls of Poway.
Sincerely,
Jen Conole, PGSL President
