June 2, 2026 Special Municipal Election Results
CITY COUNCIL
To finalize the results of the June 2, 2026 Special Municipal Election, California Elections Code requires the governing body adopt a resolution reciting the results of the election. After adoption of the resolution, the City Clerk will administer the Oath of Office to the newly elected Council member.
Recommended Action:
It is recommended the City Council adopt a Resolution entitled, "A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Poway, California, Reciting the Fact of the Special Municipal Election Held on June 2, 2026, Declaring the Results Thereof and Such Other Matters as Provided by Law." Discussion:
The canvass of the June 2, 2026 Special Municipal Election is expected to be completed by the County of San Diego Registrar of Voters (ROV) on July 2, 2026. Poway's Special Municipal Election, which was consolidated with the State of California Primary Election, was held to elect one (1) Council member from District 2 for the remainder of the four (4) year term expiring in November 2028. At the last report of registration prior to the June 2, 2026 Special Municipal Election, the San Diego County ROV reported 9,658 registered voters in District 2 in the City of Poway. The total number of votes cast for City Council District 2 is pending completion of the official canvass.
Unofficial results provided by the San Diego County ROV (Attachment B) show a total of 5,165 votes cast in the June 2, 2026 City of Poway District 2 Special Municipal Election. (Remainder of page intentionally left blank)

The official election results, including the candidate for Member of the City Council District 2 receiving the highest number of votes and the total number of votes cast, will be provided in a memorandum upon official certification by the San Diego ROV. Following certification, the final Resolution, including the certified election results, will be provided as Attachment A.
A slip sheet has been included in place of Attachment A pending certification of the election results by the San Diego County ROV. Upon certification, the final Resolution, including Exhibit A containing the official election results, will be distributed by memorandum and made available to the public.
Environmental Review:
This action is not subject to review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
Fiscal Impact:
Prior to the election, an advance deposit of $15,000 was paid to the San Diego County ROV during Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-26. Final costs are not known until after the completion of the election. The cost will include one (1) city council district candidate seat. Funds are available in FY 2025-26 City Clerk's Office, Election Services Account #101010-49100 to cover the cost of consolidating the election with the ROV and other costs associated with legal advertising and translations as required by election law.
A full accounting and final invoice should be received from the ROV later in FY 2026-27.
