CITY COUNCIL
Approval of First Amendment to Lease Agreement for Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego
On July 31, 2001, the City Council approved a modification to the Community Park for the construction of a Boys & Girls Club and joint use parking lot located at 12988 Bowron Rd. On June 11, 2002, the Boys & Girls Club of Inland North County entered into a lease with the City for a 5.2-acre portion of the Community Park to develop and use a 20,253 square foot facility for a Boys and Girls Club. Since September 3, 2002, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego (formally known as Boys and Girls Club of Inland North County) has continuously subleased a portion of the leased premises for the purpose of running the federally funded early childhood education Head Start Program.
Recommended Action:
It is recommended the City Council approve an amendment to the lease agreement with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego allowing for an additional fifteen (15) year lease term with an option to extend the term an additional fifteen (15) year period following the expiration of the term on September 30, 2041.
Discussion:
On July 31, 2001, the City Council adopted Resolution P-01-37 for the approval of a Conditional Use Permit and Development Review for the construction of a new Poway Boys & Girls Club. The project included the 20,253 square foot Boys & Girls Club. The Club pays the City an annual rent of one dollar per year. The Boys & Girls Club -Poway Sulpizio Family Branch provides a vital service to the residents of Poway throughout the year operating Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Tuesdays from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Club offers a variety of programs including after-school programs, summer programs, day camps, child development, STEM activities, sports, and leadership training that make a difference in the lives of Poway youth. 1 of 5
