Hello Kristie,

My name is Nina Lees and my residence is 71427 Halgar Road.  I have been having my pickups by Burrtec for several years because of my disability. I need to have that continued.

I tried calling at the phone number shown and get the message that the number is no longer in service. I thought I'd let
you know about it.

Sincerely,

Nina Lees

Dear Sir or Madam,

I want to go on record as being against two trash pick ups per week.

One trash pick up is sufficient.

A single day for trash, recycle and compost pickup is best, and would be better for the environment in terms of less emissions and fossil fuel consumption.

Thanks,
Ron Hochfield

Good morning,

The purpose of the notice is to provide those affected an opportunity to provide public testimony, comment or to voice or provide written protest to the increased maximum rates. The franchise agreement is already in place and the focus of this hearing is not regarding the hauler but, the maximum rate changes proposed. I hope this helps‐ please reach out if you have any further questions.

My husband and I would like to understand the purpose of this hearing, given that contract has already been renewed.

We would prefer not to waste our time if it's like the Cotino project, where we residents weren't consulted and, in fact, weren't even told until it was a done deal. Thank you for your help.

Protest to raising Garbage Rates
I own a small home in Rancho Mirage and have very little trash, recycle & green waste. I am conscientious of how necessary it is to produce less waste and be considerate of our environment.

I spend 5 months each year in Rancho Mirage but have to pay 8 months of garbage service. Beginning next year I will have to pay 12 months when I only use it 5 months.

This is so unfair and I can't even believe it is legal! It seems like you are making us part time residents supplement full time residents garbage service.

I think you should have another option for people like me who barely use garbage service at all.

Almost $30 per month is way more than I pay at my other home and thankfully I am allowed to stop service here when I go to Rancho Mirage.

Thank You,
Sharon Meyer

I have attempted to contact Jessica Pulliam by phone, however the telephone number provided in the Notice of Public Hearing  is apparently no longer in service.

My question is whether the upcoming hearing on the proposed rate increase by Burtec Waste Management ,has taken into account the termination of partial seasonal
holds .

I was advised that effective in 2024 Buret Waste Management will no longer allow customers to have a temporary suspension of collection . With a large percentage of Rancho Mirage residents being seasonal residents ,this represents a significant and costly increase for waste collection.

Burtec Waste Management had a policy of allowing service to be suspended for up to 6 months. This was reduced to a suspension of services for 4 months a few years ago. I was advised by Burtec that effective in 2024, that  residents would be billed for 12 months without any seasonal suspension of services. This effectively represents an increase of 33% .

Is the council of the City of Rancho Mirage aware of this change in policy by Burtec Waste Management ? And if aware of this new policy ,in favour of this change ?

Mr. Barry.

You can reach me at 760‐324‐4511 x211. 1. Recycling and organics is mandated by the State and thus regardless of the consumption of energy or labor
we will be required to keep it. 2. There are three required waste streams‐ trash, recycling and now organics. Using the old single pass trucks only one waste stream could be picked up at a time which would have required three passes of a truck on three separate occasions to pick up all three streams however, in an effort to reduce costs and increase efficiency the City negotiated for split body trucks which have a divider and can carry two waste streams at a time thus allowing a truck to pass by twice rather than three times to collect the three waste streams. As the truck is already coming by twice‐ it made sense to continue the twice a week on trash. 3. No, you can not contaminate your trash with recycling or organics items. Right now if there is consistent contamination we will be educating but, beginning next year we are required by the state to begin to fine residents 4. This is not a bad concept but, this would require significant infrastructure changes, weighing, reporting and staff time‐ that honestly I think it would likely would be more expensive.

Subject: Public Hearing on Trash

Jessica,

Sent you an email last week regarding some issues with waste hauling. Wanting to discuss some with you. Tried the phone # on the notice and 760-341-4511 does not work. Tied to leave a message on 211 at city hall and that did not work either.

1-Does recycling save or cost added dough? I expect it consumes lots of energy and labor. 2-Why not just once/week pick up?
3-If I don't recycle can I put all the stuff in the trash container? 4-Why not charge for what is actually picked up? We could save lots of $$.

Can we discuss?
Barry Morgan
