Re: Written letter to be entered in the Public record and made available for Public Inspection for the November 16, 2023 Rancho Mirage City Council meeting ‐ Agenda Item: 13 (Action calendar ‐ council vacancy)
Dear current City of Rancho Mirage Council members,
This letter is in opposition of the political maneuvering of City Council members Weill and Downs to dictate how and when the next City Council member will be selected for the City of Rancho Mirage, California.
With the scheduled departure of rotating Mayor Kite set for November 17, 2023 its surprising that City Residents were not notified of the creation of a "subcommittee" before the release of the November 16, 2023 City Council meeting agenda which was "posted" on November 9, 2023.
Questions that should be discuss: why would the appointed Mayor Pro tem Downs choose to form a "subcommittee"? And when was that private (non‐public) mandate to form a "subcommittee" decided?
It's reasonable to allow City Residents the opportunity to elect their political representative (City Council member) through methods of a local special election. City's generated staff report mentioned financial resources would be saved by not allowing citizens the opportunity to select the best candidate to serve the remaining term left vacate by the willingness of current Mayor Kite's abandonment of his duties and commitments that were made when Mayor Kite decided "Not to Debate" other political elements and avoid open Public venues while attending other private sector business operations before being selected to serve as a City Council member in the City of Rancho Mirage, California.
Gov. Code sec. 36512 allows for Special Elections to fill vacate positions ‐ consider the greater good over the self‐serving political powers of this Rancho Mirage City Council. Serve City Residents before serving yourselves ‐ future generations will study prospects of how a local governmental agency was allowed to empire built without restraints.
2 Sincerely,
Brad Anderson | 37043 Ferber Dr. Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270 [email protected]
