Re: Written letter to be entered in the Public record and made available for public Inspection for the March 7, 2024 (1:PM) Rancho Mirage City Council / Housing Authority meeting - Agenda Item: 5 (Public Hearing - RMEA rate adjustment)
Dear current Elected and Appointed City Council/Housing Authority members, It's commendable to allow enlisted City of Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA) customers a continued discounted electricity rate over Southern California Edison's (SCE) current rate charged to their customers.

As this Board is aware, much fanfare was produced by this body to sell the notion of establishing the current RMEA to City of Rancho Mirage Resident's. One such selling point was the promise of lower prices charged for electric services over what SCE would charge their ratepayers. Saving of 5% were mentioned at the creation of RMEA and at todays meeting the recommendation of 0.5% "discount" is proposed.

It's reasonable to consider that RMEA staff (City Employees) continued work on comparing RMEA operations to that of SCE's - which is time consuming and potentially a wasteful use of government resources. The continue intermingling between City staff and the RMEA operations would potential mean that non-RMEA members (SCE Customers) maybe financing the RMEA through their private property taxes and other City collected fees.

Of course - the above statement would ring-true when the RMEA director (City Manager) and City representatives allowed City funds (General fund) to be raided for RMEA operations.

Furthermore, the RMEA was established with City resources which non-RMEA members will not benefit.

Sincerely,
Brad Anderson | 37043 Ferber Dr. Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270 [email protected]
