Good afternoon Council and Rancho Mirage Voters. As a long time Rancho Mirage resident and voter for almost 36 years which isperhaps longer than any current council member, I've been involved with civics andspecifically the City of Rancho Mirage and I am disappointed with some of the actions by the council which seem to be more self serving than serving the voters in the community.
I found it especially offensive to read the comments in the Desert Sun by Mr. Downswho stated that the Council would not appoint a candidate, to fill a two yearunexpired term, that had been "rejected by the voters". For those over 8,000 voters,who like myself, who voted for at least one candidate other than the incumbents, thisis an insult as they were not rejecting those for whom they voted, rather they wantedsome new representation. While the two incumbents received a combined total ofover 9,000 votes, it is significant that there were over 8.000 votes for the other very eligible candidates. 8.000+ votes is not 'rejection'!
Once again, the council will be made up of those who were appointed by council members and then hold on for many years until they must resign due to Dementia,Age or even Death! Thankfully, we have one council member who was first chosenby the voters and city deserves more representation like that. Patty Newman
