To the Mayor and Members of the City Council
CC: City Clerk
I object to Item 4B.

The Council is being asked to waive term limits for Lois Reese with no explanation on the record. There is no written policy providing for automatic waivers as was suggested at the last meeting. In fact, Rancho Mirage Municipal Code § 2.28.030 establishes one-year terms with a maximum of four consecutive terms, subject only to discretionary waiver by the Council. No cause or justification for this waiver has been stated.

Term limits exist to ensure rotation and independent oversight. Waiving them without explanation defeats that purpose and undermines transparency.

I do not support her reappointment. While I recognize that individual commissioners may not directly control budget decisions, this occurred during her term. The Library is moving forward with approximately $53,000 in children’s book shelving that is specifically designed to be removed each year to accommodate the Writers Festival—an adult- focused event. That reflects a discretionary priority over core, everyday use for children.

That raises concerns about overall oversight and stewardship of public resources.

We need new oversight and fresh perspectives.

This item should not be approved.

Thank you.
