Code Enforcement Monthly Report – June 2026
Code Enforcement Program Update and Operational Enhancements
1. Courtesy Notice Program
Code Enforcement has actively implemented the Courtesy Notice (Courtesy Letter) program as an initial step in the enforcement process. This allows property owners the opportunity to correct violations before formal enforcement action is taken.
The program has resulted in increased voluntary compliance, with many cases being resolved early. This has reduced administrative costs related to preparing and mailing formal notices, as well as decreased staff time spent on enforcement actions. Overall, the program has helped improve efficiency and streamline the code enforcement process.
2. During the month of June, Code Enforcement focused on addressing overgrown vegetation and blighted properties throughout the city. Efforts included responding to complaints, conducting proactive inspections, and working with property owners to bring properties into compliance.
This focus was aimed at reducing fire hazards associated with dry vegetation, improving neighborhood appearance, and addressing ongoing property maintenance issues. Voluntary compliance was encouraged through courtesy notices, with formal enforcement used when necessary. Overall, these efforts supported community safety and helped maintain property standards citywide.
3. This month, Code Enforcement has been looking into different ways to handle problem properties that are not coming into compliance. Code Enforcement is working with other departments to better understand what options are available and when to use them.
These options include receivership for severely damaged or blighted properties, placing tax liens to recover costs, seeking court orders (injunctions) to force compliance, and, in extreme cases, eminent domain.
4. Code Enforcement has been addressing businesses operating within the city without a valid business license, including gas stations, home-based businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
