Featured Case – Union Street Demolition
The property at 1142 Union Street has been an active Code Enforcement matter for several years, with the original complaint dating to October 21, 2015. The property was documented as a severely dilapidated and unsecured structure, with conditions including accumulated debris, overgrown vegetation, an unsafe building, and an attractive nuisance.

After a change in ownership, the new owner appeared at City Hall in May 2026 and advised Code Enforcement that he intended to demolish the structure. The City subsequently issued a demolition permit.

During July and August 2026, Code Enforcement continued to monitor the property and communicate with the owner regarding the demolition. On July 22, the property had received substantial weed and shrubbery abatement, although demolition had not yet occurred.

As of this report, the owner has fully demolished the structure at 1142 Union Street. Code Enforcement has verified that the City's orders have been satisfied and the property is in compliance. This represents the successful resolution of a long-standing dangerous-building and nuisance case.

Featured Dangerous Building Activity - Oriole Street
On August 13, 2026, two structures sustained significant fire damage, extending from the garage area across approximately three-quarters of the north side of one building and the garage area of the other structure. Further inspection of the more severe property revealed significant fire damage to the kitchen, master bedroom, and two bathrooms, including damage to the ceilings and roof structure.

The photos below illustrate a property that had accumulated debris and miscellaneous items on the exterior of the residence, resulting in visible property maintenance concerns. Code Enforcement worked collaboratively with the occupant to address the identified conditions and bring the property into compliance with applicable City standards. Achieving voluntary compliance is the Department’s ultimate goal, and we appreciate the cooperation and efforts of the residents in resolving these issues and improving the overall appearance of the property and surrounding neighborhood.
