Tree Ordinance:

GOAL: Redondo Tree Ordinance - goal and policy to replace the removal of any tree on a one-to-one basis in the City; and regulate the unfettered removal of trees in an effort to preserve and grow a desirable tree canopy in Redondo Beach No front yard removal 20-25 ft without a 1:1 replacement with a 24” tree from our favored species list in the same front yard setback;
Dead or sick tree, disfavored or nuisance causing species in first 25 feet, ok to remove and replace with 1:1 replacement in the same setback;
If removed in permitted place, rear yard, sideyard.; fee paid to the city tree fund, adequate to replace the tree;
Violation of this section shall result int he payment of the cost of replanting 5 new 24” box trees, trees plus $15,000; enforce under ARO with lien power; Average 24” box trees for replacements;
Pull best aspects from Manhattan Beach, Encinitas and Beverly Hills tree ordinances, while permitting city to be objectively flexible so we do not prevent redevelopment of old, dilapidated structures and properties due to trees.

Replacements: small fee paid to city to cover cost of replacement Objective standards for the City staff and experts to have reasonable flexibility to uphold the goals of the City.

Heritage tree definition, favored species list; disfavored species list - prohibited If property sells, required to put a 24” box tree in the parkway if a tree is missing and placement is feasible
Tree canopy committee to help develop the Tree Ordinance No criminal enforcement
Education when we finalize this is key.
