Tiny Homes for the Unhoused
Beautification Project Proposal

ALEXANDRIA PARK, LOS ANGELES

OVERVIEW
Our Mission Statement
To improve transitional housing units for unhoused Redondo Beach individuals resulting in pathways to stable living.

Project Description
The Leadership Redondo Class of 2021 chose to help the city of Redondo Beach improve the Pallet Shelters, which will be referred to as tiny homes, that are located on a Public Works site near the South Bay Galleria. These 15 existing tiny homes have proven to be a valuable step in transitioning the unhoused to stable living and work environments, and though initially constructed as a temporary measure, the City has determined that these are now considered permanent.

The improvements would entail creatively painting the tiny homes, as well as providing tables, shade, and other amenities for residents to enjoy. The goal of these improvements would be to add a sense of community and belonging for the residents of the program and for the residents of Redondo Beach, and to create a more comfortable living space for residents of the program during their stay.

Project Scope
Harbor Interfaith has identified the need for a shaded area with tables for the residents, with clear detachable/roll-up sides to help protect from the elements. They have also requested certain amenities to make the units more comfortable, as well as painting the tiny homes.

The Class will coordinate with the City and Harbor Interfaith in the design and installation of the improvements and amenities. The class will provide all labor.

The project scope initially included these improvements as well as purchasing one or more additional tiny homes for the location but, recognizing that the City Council recently approved the purchase of three additional units, and given the space limitations of the site, the project now encompasses improvements only.

Required Approvals
- Leadership Redondo Steering Committee – INITIALLY APPROVED on 11/18/21, UPDATED PROPOSAL APPROVED on 2/11/22 - City of Redondo Beach / Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce Once sufficient funds are raised, the Class will coordinate with the Chamber of Commerce, the City, and Harbor Interfaith in the scheduling of the required work for Project Day.

Project Implementation
The Class has met with staff from the City as well as Harbor Interfaith to obtain consensus on project scope.

Appendix A contains before and after photos/renderings of the site, including a general site layout. Note that final painting may be slightly different than that shown.

Recognizing the City has recently authorized the purchase of three additional tiny homes, the Class intends to coordinate with the City so improvements are consistent among all the units.
