Community Based Policing focuses on building relationships within the community to better address specific safety needs and concerns. This method of policing includes forming partnerships with local community groups, having school resources officers available to students, encouraging neighborhood watch groups, attending local meetings, and being accessible to the public through police‐sponsored events and social media.

Quality of Life Policing focuses on attending to or addressing community‐disrupting activity. This may include responding to minor criminal offenses (e.g. groups loitering in front of a business) or even civil matters (e.g. dispute between neighbors). Quality of Life issues also involve crimes related to homelessness, pollution and city ordinance violations.
