The Honorable Redondo Beach City Council
Redondo Beach Council Chambers

Redondo Beach, CA 90277
Subject: Veterans Park Community Center
Dear Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers:
The members of the Redondo Beach Library Commission are excited about the future of the Veterans Park Community Center, a historic landmark of over 11,000 square feet with three levels, ocean views, and a full kitchen, and commend the Community Services Department for its efforts to engage with other city commissions and the community to solicit input on the best use of the facility.
On June 6, 2022, the Redondo Beach Library Commission reviewed the history of the building provided in the April 13, 2022 Recreation and Parks Commission administrative report along with the results of the community survey regarding preferred uses of the space. After a discussion on the proposed uses and the survey results, the Library Commission would like to express our support for the following uses of the facility:
• Shared multi-use space for the community
• Temporary exhibits and programs for a diverse array of art, including the literary arts • Library tie-ins with exhibits and events (such as a recommended reading list to accompany the CA 101 show put on by the Friends of Redondo Beach Arts or an author reading to accompany an event or exhibit)
• Commercial food service, making the facility a go-to destination and extending and enhancing the facility's appeal
• Installation of a means for patrons to access books for borrowing or purchase While there are many details to still be determined, the Library Commission is excited at the possibilities inherent in opening the facility to cultural and community events.
Thank you for your consideration,
Ansembeaucharms
Chair, Redongo Beach Library Commission
