A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, PROHIBITING THE USE OF
SKATEBOARDS AND ROLLERSKATING AT THE REDONDO
BEACH TRANSIT CENTER FACILITY AND PARKING AREAS
WHEREAS, Section 3-1.06, Chapter 1, Title 3, of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code prohibits the use or operation of any skateboard, roller skate, or wheeled toy upon the traveled way of any public street or alley with the city; and
WHEREAS, the Redondo Beach Transit Center located at 1521 Kingsdale Avenue, Redondo Beach, and public parking located at 1519 Kingsdale Avenue, Redondo Beach will be a multi-modal transportation facility. The Redondo Beach Transit Center will provide pedestrian and bicycle access to public transit and improve regional mobility, by linking Beach Cities Transit with other regional transit providers such as Los Angeles Metro, Torrance Transit, G-Trans and Lawndale Beat Transit, to these services, and
WHEREAS, there is a critical need to control the use of skateboards and roller skates at the Redondo Beach Transit Center to ensure the safety of the transit operators, passengers, and general public using the facilities, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 3-1.03, Chapter 1, Title 3, of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, the City Council may by resolution prohibit skateboard and roller skate riding at specific locations within the city.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 3-1.03, Chapter 1, Title 3, of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, the City Council finds and determines that skateboard and roller skate riding creates a hazard to the public at certain locations in said city, and that skateboard and roller skate riding is hereby prohibited at the following specific locations as described below:
All of the area described as the Redondo Beach Transit Center located at 1519 and 1521 Kingsdale Avenue inclusive of the transit center driveways, passenger waiting areas, bicycle parking areas, public parking lot areas and driveways and adjacent sidewalks and crosswalks.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution and shall enter the same in the Book of Original Resolutions.
