RANKED CHOICE VOTING
DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION PERTAINING
TO A POSSIBLE CHARTER/ORDINANCE
AMENDMENT FOR VOTERS TO APPROVE THE
IMPLEMENTATION OF RANKED CHOICE
VOTING (“RCV”) AND REPLACE RUNOFFS FOR CITY
ELECTIVE OFFICES
HOW RCV WORKS
• Voter selects candidates on ballot by ranking them in order of preference 1 st , 2nd, 3rd choice, etc.
• If one candidate receives more than 50% (50% +1 vote) of 1st choice votes that candidate wins. If not, the process of elimination begins… ➢ The last place candidate is eliminated;
➢ Voters who chose the eliminated candidate will have their vote counted towards their next choice;
➢ Tabulation rounds continue in same manner until one candidate receives 50% +1 vote; that candidate wins!
• Brief video presentation
