OF CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE RECORDS MANAGER

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City maintains an Official Book of Class Specifications for positions in the service of the City of Redondo Beach. As recruitments for positions are initiated, approved class specifications are created, reviewed and/or updated to validate current job duties, responsibilities and qualifications.

The Police Department requests that the City Council update the job specifications for Public Safety Communications Manager and Police Records Manager due to pending recruitment for the positions and the job specification for Communications Supervisor due to a clarification in assigned duties.

BACKGROUND
In order to meet operational needs and to best serve the community, the Police Department has taken the opportunity to evaluate current vacancies and has identified an opportunity to reallocate funding from certain non-sworn positions, as approved by City Council, to best address areas of concern by authorizing recruitment for two non-sworn positions, Public Safety Communications Manager and Police Records Manager. The existing job specification for the position of Public Safety Communications Manager was last approved by the City Council in 2020, and Police Records Manager in 2007. The proposed new job specifications modernize, update, and enhances the responsibilities for each position and add contemporary language taken from similar City job specifications.

The existing job specification for Communications Supervisor was last updated in 2012. The update in the job specification for Communications Supervisor is due to clarification of assigned duties as it

All three job specifications have been discussed with, and approved by, the Professional and Supervisory Association (PSA), which serves as the applicable labor association.
