TITLE

AUTHORIZE THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF NEW CONDENSER COILS FROM ACCO

ENGINEERED SERVICES FOR THE HVAC CHILLER UNIT THAT SERVES THE POLICE STATION FOR A COST OF $59,950

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Approval of the recommended action would authorize the sole source purchase and installation of new condenser coils for the HVAC chiller unit at the Police Station. The existing coils are beyond their useful life and need to be replaced. ACCO Engineered Systems (ACCO) will provide and install the replacement coils for a cost of $59,950.

BACKGROUND
The Redondo Beach Police Station contains a Carrier 30GN air-cooled chiller unit that maintains comfortable conditions in the facility. The chiller unit contains condenser coils that remove heat from the air before it is pumped out of the unit. The coils have outlived their useful life, are beginning to corrode and have become inefficient.

ACCO, the City’s current HVAC maintenance contractor, will provide and install the necessary replacement coils for a cost of $59,950. The suggested purchase is sole source and justified by ACCO providing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs for the Police Station’s HVAC equipment. ACCO has extensive knowledge of the equipment and its ongoing maintenance needs.

As the proposed expenditure exceeds $50,000 it requires City Council approval.

COORDINATION
The Public Works Department coordinated this item along with the Financial Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT
The cost to replace the condenser coils for the chiller unit serving the Police Station is $59,950, including installation. Funding for the new coils is available in the budget for the City Facility HVAC Replacement Capital Improvement Project.
