BACKGROUND
Upon completion of a duly noticed public hearing, the proposed Ordinance was introduced for first reading on May 30, 2023 and is now ready for second reading and adoption. Support for the speed limit reductions proposed in the Ordinance is founded in an Engineering and Traffic Survey that was prepared by the City’s Traffic Engineering consultant, AGA Engineers Inc., reviewed by staff, presented to and unanimously supported by the Public Works and Sustainability Commission and approved by the City Council. The Administrative Report from May 30, 2023 included a brief explanation of the process and the necessity of an engineering analysis (i.e. the Engineering and Traffic Survey) prior to modifying speed limits as required by the California Vehicle Code. The Engineering and Traffic Survey is provided as an attachment.
