BACKGROUND
Effective 6-23-2010
Since 2010, the accepted meeting schedule for the Historical Commission has been every other month. The Bylaws of the Redondo Beach Historical Commission as Amended 6-23-2010 state:

Sec. 1 Time of Meetings
Unless otherwise directed by a majority of the Historical Commission, the Commission shall meet regularly on the fourth Wednesday of every other month at 7:00 p.m. or on such other day and time, as a majority of the Commission shall establish. If the fourth Wednesday of the month is a recognized public holiday, the regular meeting of the Historical Commission shall be held on the subsequent Wednesday.

Effective September 1, 2022
The Redondo Beach Municipal Code Section 2-9.101, however, states, "from and after September 1, 2022, each board or commission shall hold a regular meeting at least once each month..." The same section also states, "In addition to any such regular meetings, each board or commission shall hold whatever special meetings may be necessary or convenient to dispose of business without delay." All of these powers and duties are best accomplished outside of City Council Chambers. Currently, the Historical Museum has no regular and ongoing source of funding, so there is almost no need for the Historical Commission to make recommendations to staff or the City Council regarding how best to use public dollars. The best use of the Commissioner's valuable time is in the Historical Museum performing the five responsibilities identified above so that the Redondo Beach Historical Museum can actually become a cherished resource for the citizens of and visitors to Redondo Beach.
