COUNCIL MEETINGS
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
At the July 18, 2023 City Council meeting, the Council requested that staff return with an item to discuss adjusting the start time for the City Council’s Closed and Open Session Meetings.
BACKGROUND
Until the adoption of Ordinance No. 2008-3032-08, which became effective on January 9, 2009, regular meetings of the Redondo Beach City Council started at 6:30 PM. The Ordinance moved the Open Session meeting time forward to 6:00 PM. This change was memorialized in Section 2-1.01, Chapter 1, Title 2 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code (RBMC).
On July 18, 2023, the City Council requested staff return with a discussion item to consider adjusting the start times of both the Closed and Open Session portions of the City Council Meetings.
Staff researched several Southern California Cities and found that many local jurisdictions start their meetings at 6:00 PM, a number of agencies start earlier than 6:00 PM, and a few start later than 6:00 PM.
