EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City maintains an official book of class specifications for positions in the service of Redondo Beach. Pursuant to Article 6, Chapter 3 of the Municipal Code, as recruitments for open positions are initiated, class specifications are reviewed and updated to validate current job duties, responsibilities, and qualifications. Staff is recommending the adoption of the attached resolution amending the book of classifications to include the Senior Accountant position within the Financial Services Department.

BACKGROUND
The City is preparing to fill the position of Senior Accountant, which was approved as part of the FY 2022-23 Budget. As envisioned, the Senior Accountant is an intermediate position between financial services management staff and technical personnel.

The job specification for the Senior Accountant was prepared in May 2023 in conformance with the City’s current goals and work objectives and submitted to the proper employee association for review.

It was returned to the Human Resources Department in June 2023 with some minor suggested changes. The edits have been incorporated in the revised job specification.

The revised job specification includes language specifying the responsibilities of the Senior Accountant including: audits, analysis and verification of financial records, preparation of financial reports and statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), providing financial and accounting information to other City staff, reconciling general ledger accounts and preparation of various budgets, year-end audit reports and schedules, and maintenance of the accounting database system, and other additional duties.

Attached is the resolution and proposed job classification for City Council review and consideration of approval. The Senior Accountant is a position assigned to the Professional and Supervisory Association (PSA) employee group.
