APPROVE AN AGREEMENT WITH STELLEN DESIGN LLC TO EXTEND THE CONTRACT TERM FOR DESIGN SERVICES THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2023 AT NO ADDITIONAL COST
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As part of the Strategic Plan, the City Council requested staff identify the resources and process needed to facilitate a City rebranding effort. In October 2022, the Council was presented with options to begin a rebrand of Redondo Beach and directed staff to pursue a streamlined redesign of the City’s logo with the assistance of a design firm. At the February 14, 2023 City Council meeting, the Council approved a contract with Stellen Design LLC for logo design services that expired on August 14, 2023. The logo redesign work is in progress and is scheduled to be presented to the City Council in October. As such, a new agreement is needed to extend the term of service.
BACKGROUND
The Strategic Plan includes an objective, to “present City logo redesign options to City Council for consideration of approval.” At the February 14, 2023 City Council meeting, Council approved a contract with Stellen Design LLC for design services. Since then, a City Manager’s Logo Redesign Committee (Committee) was formed and has met regularly to consider iconography, design, and brand impressions. Community surveys and stakeholder interviews have also been conducted. The Committee is ready to present the City Council with the preferred logo refresh design, and is scheduled to do so in October.
The contract with Stellen Design expired on August 14, 2023. In order to complete the contracted work, including a Council presentation and the creation of a brand guidebook for the refreshed logo, a new agreement is necessary to extend the term of service. There is no additional cost for the extended term of design services.
COORDINATION
The City Manager’s Office coordinated the preparation of this report.
FISCAL IMPACT
The $15,000 cost of the original design services agreement was paid for through the City Manager’s Office regular operating budget. The extended term of the agreement requires no additional expenditure.
