J.1 PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS

Redondo Beach City Council 9/12/23
Niki Negrete-Mitchell, D3 ROW Shareholder, 42 year resident of RB I’ve compiled a master list of all of the upcoming meetings highlighting Metro Board committees, also included are member lists for each committee and their email addresses. We have some clarity going forward of which ones to attend and where our commentary will be beneficial.
I am asking all of you to please put it on your calendars with reminders to make a public comment to the receive and file dates of, and I’m including members of interest to us from each committee with this schedule:
• Weds. 9/20 at the 1pm meeting for the Planning & Programming Committee, Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker has been a VERY important voice for us. Please pay attention to her.
• Thurs. 9/21 at the 11am Executive Management Committee meeting, Janice Hahn and Holly Mitchell are known as two of the three primary directors on the project who oversee our this area. (I know this is obvious to you, just introducing the language they’re using at the Board level.)
• Thurs. 9/28 at the 10am Metro Board of Directors Meeting. It’s of course the full 14 member Board.
Again, these are receive and file, no recommendation, no voting but our commentary is necessary for the members to take home with them and consider before the upcoming BIG meeting in October where Metro will make their recommendation to the Board. Note that there will be NO VOTE at that time. I’m told there are too many questions for one meeting. It’s a big deal and WE CANNOT BE COMPLACENT. We also cannot rely on other cities to get their act together. We have to take care of US first.
• Mon. 10/16 at the 10am SBCCOG Transportation Committee. James Butts is always present and he’s the 3rd “primary” director. They will be discussing positioning and whether or not to make a recommendation to the COG Board.
We’ve made our position clear as a group to our Metro Board deputies which is Hawthorne Blvd. elevated for the many benefits it will bring to commerce for all 3 cities while at the same time it appeases the proponents for transit to the South Bay.
We’ve been making crystal clear all of the flaws with the ROW alignment, and the hybrid is being described by my Board contact as Metro’s “last Hail Mary” while they also note it’s still massively flawed and doesn’t solve enough problems. In fact the only problem it solves is the portential responder delays for ambulances while it creates even MORE problems with vibration, air quality and noise for the 8 years it would take for construction.
