EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City maintains an official book of class specifications for positions in the service of Redondo Beach. Pursuant to Article 6, Chapter 3 of the Municipal Code, as recruitments for open positions are initiated, class specifications are created and/or updated to validate required job duties, responsibilities, and qualifications. As part of the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Approved Budget (per Decision Package #8), a new position was created in the Community Services Department titled, Deputy Community Services Director. To implement the position, staff in the Community Services and Human Resources Departments prepared the proposed job specification, which must be approved before initiating the hiring.
BACKGROUND
The position of Deputy Community Services Director was created as part of the FY 2023-24 budget adoption process for the Community Services Department. The job specification (attached) for this new position will directly assist the Community Services Director with planning, implementing, managing and evaluating the activities, programs and operations of the Community Services Department.
The Resolution and proposed job classification are attached for Council review and consideration of approval. The starting salary range, as approved in the budget, will be $8,206 to $10,546 per month, which is in conformance with other similarly situated positions in the Management & Confidential Employee group. The Deputy Community Services Director will be designated as an exempt, Unclassified Service position assigned to the Redondo Beach Management & Confidential employee bargaining unit.
COORDINATION
The Human Resources Department coordinated the proposed job class specification with the Community Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this position is available in the Community Services Department’s annual budget.
