EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City of Redondo Beach has been awarded a one-year grant from the Beach Cities Health District to support the Fire Department Emergency Medical Services program, the Police Department Domestic Violence Advocacy program, and the Homelessness Services managed by the City Attorney’s Office. Each grant is issued independently. The monitoring and reporting requirements of the individual grants are the responsibility of the receiving Department. This Agreement will allow the City to receive $147,813 in total grant funding, for the period July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
BACKGROUND
Since Fiscal Year 2005, the City has received grant funding from the Beach Cities Health District to support Fire and Police Department programs. The Fire Department Emergency Medical Services program was historically awarded $48,000 per year in grant funding. In FY 2019-20 the BCHD increased the annual amount by $10,000. The continued successful cooperative agreement between the Beach Cities Health District and the Redondo Beach Fire Department helps support an enhanced pre-hospital life support (ALS) emergency medical service to the community. The $58,000 of program funding is used to replenish medical supplies for paramedic vehicles and required continuing education programs for Paramedic/EMTs in the Fire Department.
The Police Department Domestic Violence Advocacy Program (Program) has been awarded $39,816 in grant funding. The Program’s part-time paid manager and twenty-four domestic violence advocate volunteers provide assistance to victims of domestic violence in the City of Redondo Beach. The manager and volunteers provide 24/7 personal assistance to victims from the onset of the incident to months beyond the initial call for service.
Beginning in FY 2022-23, the Homelessness Support Services program, managed by the City Attorney’s Office, has been awarded $50,000 in annual grant funding. This program provides funding to assist with the successful placement of individuals experiencing homelessness into housing.
Services include, but are not limited to, counseling, psychiatric treatment, substance use counseling, medical detoxification, and/or medical services.
