To: Redondo Beach City Council and Mayor 9/21/2023
From: Mike Grady of Independent Repair & Tire Pros
Subject: Immediate Consumpon
Over the last year I had the opportunity to work with the city both in council and planning commission. I take away many things from this experience. My role in this was only support of my next door neighbor who operates the Exxon gas staon. I wanted to share some thanks and opinions.

Never will I again use Facebook as a gauge of our council and their work. I have learned that you all are passionate about what you do and I fully believe that all of you have the best interest of the city at heart. This includes members who voted nay.

Not everyone can win. Most of these cases are difficult and require research, experience, and common sense. It must be so hard to remove your emoons and have thick skin to deal with everything you do.

Bashir was able to get a posive result and will be able to apply for the CUP and move forward with his project. I believe the right outcome did result in the end. On the city’s side it was a team effort with council, mayor, city staff, planning, city manager and atorney. I believe you all found a way to support business and protect the city and it’s people at the same me. I would not have believed that this immediate consumpon ordinance would have required this much atenon but now with hind site. You all had just cause to be protecve and to put in safe guards against abuse.

Thank you Zein Obagi, Jr. I got to say you were not my favorite candidate when you ran against John Gran. John being a friend of mine had my full support. With that being said you were respecul with me during the campaign and once you won I felt the need to support you and give you a chance. No regrets! You are intelligent, fair, and focused. I have supported other projects you are involved with and I agree with 90% of the things you are trying to do. I am so happy that I kept and open mind and I will connue to support you. Thank you for all your help and guidance.

Thank you Paige Kaluderovic. You met with us and listened. You took the me to learn of our situaon and then to offer guidance and work with us and the city to find compromise. I got to know you a litle beter than everyone else as a person and you are amazing. The city is so lucky to have you on the council and I am lucky to know you.

Thank you Scot Behrendt. We met at the NRBBA when you first got picked for the planning commission. Now as a council member at the last meeng I could see you had done your homework. You were looking out for the city in the future should issues by this change occur. I was very impressed and appreciate you.

I must thank Todd Loewenstein. I believe you were dead against this change but as me went on and the city staff worked on a way to give business an opportunity and protect the city, I could sense the change. To you and Nils I respect both your concerns and your right to your opinion and doing what you feel is right for your districts.

Finally, to Bill Brand. I understand you had veto power to stop this in its tracks at the first meeng. You did not and gave both us and the city a chance to find a compromise. Thank you.

Blessings to all of you. As a south bay business manager/owner I appreciate you all. I lived off 182nd and Kingsdale for 25 years having moved recently so I could never be counted as a Redondo resident. I can say I love RB and always have. I may not have been a resident but I have been involved since 1985.

Respecully,
Mike Grady
