34th Annual Clean Air Awards
South Coast AQMD is still accepting nominations for the 34th Annual Clean Air Awards, which will be held inperson on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. For over three decades, South Coast AQMD has honored those who have made outstanding clean air contributions to improve the health of our communities and the economy.

South Coast AQMD’s Rule 1180 and 1180.1
On January 5, 2024, the South Coast AQMD Governing Board voted to amend Rule 1180 – Fenceline and Community Air Monitoring for Petroleum Refineries and Related Facilities, and adopt Rule 1180.1 – Fenceline and Community Air Monitoring for Other Refineries. These rules will require refineries and facilities with operations related to refineries, many of which are located near South Bay Communities, to monitor certain air pollutants at or near their fenceline, and to fund the installation and operation of monitoring stations within the community near their facilities. Amended Rule 1180 now removes an exemption, includes facilities with operations related to petroleum refineries, and includes monitoring requirements for additional air pollutants. Rule 1180.1 will establish similar fenceline and community monitoring requirements for smaller refineries that are not currently subject to Rule 1180.

For more information on these rules or to access the Rule 1180 Data Dashboard, visit https://bit.ly/Rule-1180.

The Council and Planning Commission need to aggressively protect the public's rights by policing BCHD's excessive private development plans - and - BCHD's lack of public disclosure.

BCHD, the so-called "Public" health agency is "Publicly" stating that it intends to cut taxpayers out of the private developer process of using 3 acres of "Public Land" for a 95-year 100% owned/operated PRIVATE PMB LLC Project.

BCHD must come to the table with public hearings on its current PRIVATE project.

NO BCHD/PMB PLAN UPDATES SINCE MARCH 2021:

BCHD's last published plan update to the public was provided in the draft EIR in March 2021.

That was the roughly 110-foot tall, 250,000 sqft, 1950's Miami hotel design proposed on the north and east perimeter of the campus up against residential housing.

NO PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN FOR THE PRIVATE PROJECT ON PUBLIC LAND:

On September 18, 2023, BCHD stated that it is withholding any community outreach or communications plan for the PMB LLC project from public review.

BCHD and PMB LLC continue to operate in the shadows as reflected in BCHD CPRA response to a 9/7/23 request.

NO BCHD INTENT TO UPDATE THE PUBLIC OR SEEK INPUT ON THE 100% PRIVATE PROJECT ON 100% PUBLIC LAND:

BCHD has publicly stated it will CONTINUE to work in the SHADOWS "the public will be able to access the plan when it is submitted to the City"
This is unacceptable. The land is in Redondo Beach and the BCHD plan will continue to damage property values, create negative health impacts from excessive noise, and service 80-95% non-residents.

Good evening,
The art fund has been something on my mind for quite some time. I became aware of the funds distributed into the art fund some years ago and wondered how the city would be utilizing these funds to benefit the community.

At a time where our city has many unfulfilled needs, it somewhat pains me to see so much money being allocated towards these types of art installations. City wide art, murals and sculptures can be a beautiful thing but we have other more pressing needs. Our parks could use updating, we need more trees in the ground, we need updated landscape - Redondo Beach could use some city-wide beautification and improvements of the the installations we already have. Many green ways and medians need attention. There are many trees that have been cut down for various reasons that need to be replaced. If possible I would suggest we use a portion of the funds for murals on existing structures, and use the bulk of these funds towards landscape improvements which would include installing native plants, tree replacements, and repairing and improving the aesthetics of public facing facilities and spaces.
