Subject: Proposed Street Sweeping Changes to Diamond Street CAUTION: Email is from an external source; Stop, Look, and Think before opening attachments or links.

Hello,
This request should be dismissed or update the change to Vincent Street for less impact to all residents.

Underlying issues with this request –
1) RUHS staff are parking all over the streets.
a. RUHS is not making all parking areas available to staff. b. RUHS is not directing staff to park in staff parking lots exclusively. 2) Staff and students are filling up the streets before filling up the parking areas. 3) RBPD is taking up a lot of space in the RUHS student lot on Vincent and has a “No RUHS Student Parking” sign on the fence. RBPD should remove the sign and clear its containers for student parking.

If the city chooses to accommodate the school’s latest request, the change shall be done on Vincent to minimize overall impact. Here is why –
1) Vincent St school side is already scheduled for Thursday 8 AM to 10 AM. There won’t be an impact to the residents If Athens sweeps the school side first thing at 8AM. Students who park on Diamond can park on Vincent on Thursdays.
2) If the start time needs to be moved up to 7:30 AM, the impact will still be within reason. a. There are 127 parking spaces on the school side but only ~23 cars park overnight (18%). b. Ample parking on the house side of the street to avoid getting up early to move the cars year around (school is out 30% of the year).

Quick comparison –
Vincent Diamond
Current school side schedule Th 8 AM – 10 AM Th 11 – 2PM Current overnight parking 23 / 127 (18%) 30 / 58 (52%)
Future schedule, if 8AM no impact 3 hours change
Future schedule, if 7:30 AM 30 minutes earlier 3.5 hours earlier Parking Impact Move to the opposite side
or other streets the night
before (ample space)
No space on the opposite
side; no space on other
streets
The city has overloaded Diamond with school traffic. It does not offer residents the same protection it provides to residents on the Vincent side such as stop signs at every intersection and Residential Permit parking coverage Some people who received this message don't often get email from [email protected].
